Jetwing Lighthouse Hotel – Galle

3 Dec

The spectacular staircase, which depicts the clash between the Sri Lankans and Portuguese in copper and bronze is something very unique to the hotel ‘Jetwing Lighthouse’. Beautiful first floor reception area overlooks the ocean waves crashing onto the boulder rocks further down. Definitely the place looks better than the website photographs of the hotel.

Accommodation was a modern spacious second floor room with a private balcony literally opening up to the ocean overlooking the pool which was stunning.  Perfect place to enjoy a cuppa watching the sunset and listening to the waves crashing onto the rocks. Rooms are with all the amenities that ensure a comfortable stay of a modern traveller.

Two swimming pools, the deeper one is next to ‘Nihal’s café’ definitely the hottest restaurant in the South. Refreshing cocktails at the bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, wines, beers and refreshing  signature cocktails.

The spacious ‘Cardamom Restaurant’ with an interactive live kitchen adds to the dining experience. The Saturday night buffet with grill and fresh catch seafood from the local fish supply, the barbecue is excellent and tasty. Breakfast was good in presentation, specially the popular local herbal porridges, fresh fruits, and many other traditional Sri Lankan foods, which is delicious and nutritious. After all breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

The buffet lunch with a good spread, remarkable choice of salads, seafood and variety of desserts. Service was very good and the staff are always with a genuine smile. The staff wants to ensure everything is up to the expectation of the guests, is an asset to the hotel. Service culture of the dedicated staff who are committed to offering superior levels of service and hospitality, which is very nice !

Had the fantastic opportunity to see turtles scraping algae off the rocks with their beaks, probably the ‘green sea turtles’. Well, these herbivores are important for maintaining the health of coral reefs. Without them eating algae, corals can be overgrown and die from the algae which out-competes them.

Spectacular view from the top floor of the hotel and could see the ships that are approaching and leaving the Galle harbour. Looking around, the hotel’s commitment to improvement, innovation in maintaining the high levels of standards are remarkably noticeable on this subsequent visit too.

Pool Side Bar is stocked with reputed labels, good for cocktails in a cooling ambience beside the reflective calming poolside is a attraction. Pool Deck is large area to throw a party under the great heavens, where the soothing salty sea breeze refreshing the event from the great Indian Ocean.

Well-lit spacious, glamorous hall is ideal for weddings and perfect for memorable key events, can facilitate large gatherings. Great place for wedding, honeymoon arrangements and great place for photography too !

Vegetables are planted on all available vacant spaces and some are very rare to find herbs used in traditional medicine locally. Good to see the ‘bio mass’ boiler working entirely on peeled ‘cinnamon sticks’ the by product of thriving cinnamon industry in the area.

You won’t be disappointed if you choose to spend the weekend with your family here, with all the rooms facing the beach. We enjoyed the facilities and amenities available in the hotel, thanks to the great effort by the Jetwing Lighthouse team !

Anilana Pasikuda Resort Hotel

28 Mar

What a place to be !

Hotel lobby area looks very good with the majestic hight of the reception area, so the staircase is which is elegant and beautiful. The view from the lobby entrance of the swimming pool lined by the coconut trees and a ‘Palmira tree’ is unique and beautiful ! The chalet room is spacious with all modern amenities including, Air Conditioning, Private Balcony, Flat-Screen Televisions, Cable TV, internet connectivity and Complimentary Wi-Fi and Room Service.
The unusual design of the unique infinity swimming pool, which is shallow in the middle deeper on both sides, helps both the adults and children to use the same pool! Although we tend to be outdoor, most of the time at the pool, at the secluded beach, at the sea or the in the reef barrier for that matter, which breaks the larger waves. Anilana Chefs are taking advantages of the abundant locally caught seafood, for their creative culinary, which is very good! I must say excellent! Chef and his team are constantly reminded us to ask for anything that was not on the menu or something special that we wants, and the personalized touch of a greeting, written on an Araliya leaf at our table during dinner.
Freshly baked buns just out of the oven, needs a special mention. What a remarkable large dining area, both indoor and outdoor, possibly the biggest for the Pasikuda area!  With an enviable beachfront setting overlooking the Indian Ocean, Anilana is a charming vacation resort that defines barefoot elegance, in a perfect setting! Anilana has everything for a tranquil vacation, a perfect sanctuary for a peaceful holiday.
We stayed here for two nights in a beach chalet and had one of the most relaxing holidays ever! We like to appreciate the facilities and the services, which were there for us to enjoy. The management and the hotel staff made our stay exceptional and memorable. Many thanks to the superb team at Anilana Pasikuda!
I’ll be glad to recommend Anilana to my friends personally, also through my blog, which I will be very happy to do !

An Open Response to Namal’s rant on the Colombo Telegraph “Vengeful Politics And Rugby: Phone Calls To My Brothers”

1 Feb

Thisuri Wanniarachchi

I’m so sorry life has been so hard for you lately. I’m sorry about your horses and all those unlicensed elephants now astray on the streets of Colombo. I’m sorry you had to say goodbye to all those Ferraris, Audis and Bugattis you bought with your hard-earned trillions of tax-payer money. I’m sorry about all that gold from the treasury that went missing, the mystery must be keeping you up at night. How is your mother by the way? The story around town is that “She sells sea shells by the sea shore of the Seychelles”. Satire aside, I hope she’s well, I think she wasn’t all that bad. I’m sorry your brothers lost their rightfully earned captaincy in the military rugby teams. To have three brothers talented enough to captain the tri-force teams at the same time was truly a blessing for the nation, such a beautiful coincidence, in…
